Americans today live in a divided nation in which the believers on one side of an issue don’t engage with the believers on another side of the same issue. A loss of trust in social institutions along with the increasingly independent influences of social media, leave schools as the last remaining social institution in which most Americans participate. While schools have been effective at drawing out the talented intellectual, there is an uncomfortable reality that schools have been less successful at educating for good character. The Author, a forty-year educator, offers an assessment of schools today and a plan to address Character Education through Traits for Success – one family, one teacher, and one school at a time.
